Dear JLG Customer,
Beginning in August 2007 JLG will be replacing the Deutz F3M 2011 diesel engine in the 400S Series, 450 Series II and 510AJ boom lifts with the Perkins 404C-22 water cooled diesel engine. With the upcoming Stage III emissions requirements it was imperative for JLG to select an engine that provided the best performance within the constraints of the current machine design, and still conform to stringent emissions regulations. As a result, the Perkins engine was the clear choice for JLG and its customers as the best total value package. Deutz continues to be a valued partner and engine supplier to JLG. At this time there are no plans to replace the Deutz engines in any other boom or scissor models.
Perkins engines are used in a variety of mobile and stationary construction equipment applications including Aerial Work Platforms and Telescopic Material Handlers. The Perkins 404C-22 is a 4-cylinder 2.2-liter water-cooled engine that delivers increased torque values at rated RPMs along with a decrease in noise levels.
The initial Perkins engines are Stage II compliant as required by the current EC regulations. We will be transitioning to the Stage III Perkins engine over a period of several months starting in January 2008. You will be receiving additional information regarding Stage III implementation on all JLG boom and scissor models in the near future. Aftermarket support will be handled through the Perkins distribution network. A map highlighting Perkins Master Distributor locations worldwide is enclosed for reference. This map together with a Perkins distributor contact sheet is also available in an electronic format. Additional information can also be found at www.perkins.com. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we proceed with this engine change.
